Demo-ing Mesh

Demo-ing Mesh

I picked up a demo of a gorgeous mesh dress at Maitreya today. Although I’m not keen on the V2/V3 interface (I know I could use Firestorm, but still…) I really wanted to see how a rigged mesh dress worked. As I expected, there were a few down points, but the up points outweighed those.

I love the way it moves and stretches with the avatar (although in this case I think the sleeves could have been a tad shorter, so they didn’t cut into the arms when they bend. So I think I’m a convert to mesh!

Hop behind the cut for a few shots of the down points, plus two more gorgeous (free!) mesh dresses.

A cosy place to park your butt!

A cosy place to park your butt!

Mar visited the {what next} store the other day and splurged a bit on the gorgeous Blogger’s Armchair. There are several colour versions available, and each one comes with multiple poses and accessories. There are male and female sits, a male and female ‘drink’ pose, a reading pose, and a laptop pose. The pack also comes with a book dispenser (to wear while you read) in the form of an open book, a coffee cup dispenser (to wear while you drink) in the form of a coffee cup (these will give out their contents to anyone who clicks, so your friends can grab a drink and a good read too!) and there’s also a wearable laptop.

If you join the Subscribo at {what next} you can also get a nice gift featuring some decor for your home. I won’t spoil what it is in detail, but it includes a pose item and two decor items.

The female sit pose is shown in the main image. Hop behind the cut for images of the other poses :)

Summer blue

Summer blue

Today I decided to find out where Anuenue had moved to, as their Dirt Skirt has long been a favourite of mine. I found the store sharing space with another one, and on wandering around I found these gorgeous little Tiered Skirts. Mar bought the blue version, but she might go back for a couple more! They’re a great mixture of sculpted and flexi prims, and they move nicely when you walk.

From that, she’s pulled together a pretty, summery look.

The top is from the Sn@tch Peep Show fatpack, and comes with a tintable bow which you can match to any of the colours in the pack. Shoes are (of course!) Mar’s beloved Noir Stilettos from HoC. Hair is a new purchase: Karen, from Truth (caramel shade, from the browns pack), and Mar’s accessorised it with one of the lovely little Juanita Hair Flowers from Ticky Tacky (just L$10 for the whole pack on SL Marketplace). Her earrings are also a bargain find from Ticky Tacky on SL Marketplace: the L$1 (yes, really!) Every Girl Must Have Pearls earrings. Nails are the classic Clear French Square Beige prim nails from Love Soul. Finally, her skin is Tuli’s Gina 02 (a past Dressing Room item),  and her poses are from C’est la Vie.

Oh, system skirt…

Oh, system skirt…

(To the tune of ‘O, Christmas Tree!’)

I was so glad to see a great designer like Ivey Deschanel of Sn@tch recently releasing an item that contains a system skirt. The system skirt is much maligned in SL, and it does have its limitations. It splits open in many crossed-leg poses, stretches weirdly in wider-leg stances, has that strange gap between waistband and body, but it’s still the best way to get that vintage ‘pencil skirt’ look if you’re a lover of vintage clothing, and I’ve seen it treated in many interesting ways (not the least being as the skirt section of a male jacket).

However, the one thing that most people complain about with regard to the system skirt is, “It makes my butt look HUGE!”

The key to working around that? Make a no-butt shape. Make a copy of your usual shape and dial down the butt and saddlebag sliders to pretty much zero. You’ll look very boyish (and possibly in dire need of a cheeseburger!) if you wear that shape with a normal skirt, or with pants, but wear it with a system skirt and the skirt will give you your hips and butt back; without that extra padding! It’s a good idea to rename that shape something like “no butt, for system skirt”, so you can just search for “system” and find it quickly.

I’m going to make a more detailed post about this on the main blog soon, but today’s was inspired by a cute skirt suit I found in Ivalde’s discount room. I bought the suit in both brown and beige, and mixed and matched them up:

The suit is called Brianna and was just 20L per set. Yes, it’s a little old, and obviously hand-drawn, but I like it for that authenticity. Mar chose the colour-change Flapper Pumps from Baby Monkey’s discount room, to go with them. Her bag is also from Baby Monkey (although I’m not sure if it’s still available there) – the Lulu Purse. Hair is the freebie Renee from Audacity at Savoir Hair and the earrings are the Oracle Gold Earrings with African Jade from Lilipily, which – if I recall correctly – were a DSN (Designer Showcase Network) gift. Poses are by Glitterati.

Poncho-poncho!

Poncho-poncho!

Today’s look began with the great, cheapie Absinth boots by SKIFIJA, which I wrote about on the main blog yesterday. Mar wore them with Axel’s Geney Jeans in coal (and, sadly, I can no longer find the Axel store on the map) and – originally – the Gothic Chiller Coat from Sn@tch. But today, on logging in for some inventory-sorting, I found something much better (and also by Sn@tch) to go with them.

It’s one of the fabulous Sn@tch sculpted Harmony Crocheted Ponchos. Ladies, these aren’t your usual sculpted prim items that require a lot of editing if you have anything over and above a teeny bosom. These were made for those of us with boobs (and, even if your bosom is small, they’re a doddle to edit down). Under it, of course, you could go bare if you’re daring, but Mar’s opted to wear the Euro Bikini Bra Black from a giftbag by The Dominion, which (from memory) she found as a freebie on XStreetSL (and which may still be on SLM, so take a look!).

Her accessories are the new group gift from Rozoregalia: the Gazellver Bracelet, and the Suffragette Earrings from Ticky Tacky. Prim nails are the Clear French Square Beige by Love Soul, hair is Seth – a male style by LeLutka – in AlmostGoth, and her belt is the Low Waist Leather Belt in black, by Chuculet (a place where I love to shop for cheap, good quality accessories).

All that glitters…

All that glitters…

Just a quick look at what Mar’s wearing today. It’s a mix of old stuff that I’m not sure is even for sale now, and some great accessories that I know are!

(I liked this pic so much that a cropped version of it is now Mar’s new in-world profile pic.)

All about the Lady

All about the Lady

Part of this outfit is named Germanotta, which some may not know is Lady Gaga’s real surname, hence the title of this post. Mar wanted to gussie up in something a little bit more elegant than the summery silk skirt and sequinned cami that she’s been sporting lately, and a rummage through inventory brought up this classy high-waisted pantsuit by R.icielli.

A past TDR offering, it needs very little in the way of anything else. Great heels (Mar’s beloved Noir Stilettos from HoC Apparel), fabulous hair (Blake in streaked mahogany, from Truth), and my current favourite jewellery (the Medaille series by Gabriel), as well as an old favourite prim manicure (Sexy Girl A in black, by Love Soul) and this outfit is complete. I did toy with the idea of a bag, but nothing short of a teeny clutch would have worked, and in all honesty I think it’s complete without another thing.

OMG shiny!

OMG shiny!

I was checking out the new group gift at Gabriel and couldn’t resist the 50% sale; bought the fatpack of Fur Highneck Sweater Dresses (L$200 each or the fatpack of FOUR for L$500? No contest!).

And then I cammed to the back of the store and saw some jewellery sets that drew me like a magpie. OMG they are beautiful.
